Rep. Collin Peterson, DFL-Minn., is perhaps the least controversial of Minnesota's congressmen. He's a Democrat, but he's also very conservative -- perhaps the most conservative Democrat in the U.S. House. Peterson chairs the House Agricultural Committee, and it appears that GWB really got under his skin on Monday when the White House asked for a long-term extension of the 2002 Farm Bill. Peterson pulled a Cheney.
"There isn't going to be any (expletive that presumably rhymes with 'ducking' deleted) long-term extension," Peterson said.
The current extension of the 2002 Farm Bill expires on Friday, and without the extension or a new bill, it could leave farmers and ranchers in the lurch by delaying subsidy payments for several months. House Democrats are pushing for a one-week extension while they hash out the details between Congress and the White House, but the Bush administration says it may veto that extension.
