To help anglers make their vacation and fishing plans, opening dates for the 2008-2009 Minnesota fishing season have been set, said Senator Bill Ingebrigtsen, R-Alexandria.
“Minnesotan is rich with a cultural history of hunting and fishing, to the point of having been granted constitutional protection,” Senator Ingebrigtsen said. “Our hunters and anglers are a driving force behind fish and wildlife management, habitat protection and resource conservation, but our numbers are dwindling. I encourage everyone to take advantage of these continuing opportunities to enjoy fishing and Minnesota’s great outdoors.”
The opening dates for the 2008-2009 fishing season for most inland waters in Minnesota are as follows:
• April 12: Trout in streams.
• May 10: Trout in lakes.
• May 10: Walleye, sauger, northern pike.
• May 24: Bass.
• June 7: Muskie.
The fishing season for crappies, sunnies, perch and catfish is continuous.
Anglers may obtain fishing licenses 24 hours a day, seven days a week by calling 1-888-665-4236 or visiting the Web site http://www.wildlifelicense.com/mn/.
